How to save a video from Facebook

  1. Open the video or Reel on Facebook.

Quality you get

Facebook re-encodes everything on upload and stores several renditions. Most public video tops out at 720p, with 1080p on Reels and higher-quality uploads. We always return the best rendition Facebook has for that post.

What will not work

  • Public posts only. Anything limited to Friends, a private group, or a specific audience is not publicly served and cannot be fetched.
  • Stories are not supported.
  • Watch Party and live streams still in progress are not supported. Wait until a live video is published as a replay.
  • Clips are capped at 180 seconds.

Questions

Do fb.watch short links work?

Yes. Short fb.watch links, full facebook.com URLs, and m.facebook.com mobile links are all accepted.

Why is the quality lower than what I see on Facebook?

Facebook compresses heavily on upload and picks a rendition based on your connection while you watch. We fetch the highest rendition stored, which is the ceiling for that post regardless of the tool used.

Can I download from a private group?

No. Posts in private groups are served only to members through an authenticated session, so there is nothing publicly available to fetch.

Does the person who posted it get notified?

No. Downloading is invisible to the poster and does not appear in their insights.
