How to save a video from YouTube Shorts

  1. Open the Short in the YouTube app or on youtube.com.
  2. Tap Share, then Copy link.
  3. Paste the link in the box above.
  4. Pick 1080p, 720p or 480p and download.

Quality you get

Shorts are served up to 1080x1920. Above 360p, YouTube splits video and audio into separate streams, so we merge them before handing you the file. That merge takes about a tenth of a second and is why our files are never silent.

What will not work

  • Only public and unlisted Shorts. Private videos are not served.
  • Age-restricted videos require a signed-in session and are not supported.
  • Shorts are capped at 180 seconds, which matches YouTube's own 3 minute Shorts limit exactly.

Questions

Why do other sites only give me 360p?

Because 360p is the only format YouTube serves with video and audio already combined. Every higher resolution has to be merged with a separate audio stream using ffmpeg, and ad-funded sites skip that step to save CPU. We do not.

Why are files from other downloaders silent?

Same reason. They hand you the video-only stream without merging in the audio track.

Can I get just the audio?

Yes. Pick MP3 and you get the best available audio track on its own.
